The Black Hills

Settled into an awesome little cabin in Custer, SD. Good to have some room, be able to cook our own meals and do laundry.  Got up this morning and headed to Jewel Cave National Monument and went on a Historic Lantern Tour in the cave. 90 degrees outside but about 50 degrees in the cave. Saw some bats flying around, fossils, and climbed hundreds of stairs down and then back up.  Next we headed to Custer State Park and drove the Wildlife Loop Road. Didn't see much in the middle of the day (more wildlife in the morning and evening) but did see some Bison and got up close and personal with the  "Begging Burros".  In the evening finally headed over to Mount Rushmore for the nightly ceremony. Started off ok, and then a thunderstorm came. We sat through it in the rain and ran to the car as soon as it was over. Think we'll go back tomorrow to get a better look in daylight.
